Introduction

The war in Tigray has pulled up the neighboring region, Amhara, to its downfall. Amhara is a regional state located in northern Ethiopia, mainly known as the homeland of the Amhara people.

In November 2020, when the war had started in the Tigray region, it soon spread wide and afflicted even the people of the neighboring regions. The current conditions of Amhara are getting worse day by day. The locals have had to face several casualties that have impacted ever since it all began.

Life of the Locals in Amhara

Witnessing rape incidents and terrorist attacks has become common for the locals of these regions. People in Amhara live a life filled with terrible crises due to the war. Some prevalent issues include the scarcity of food, security, and education. The other more critical hysteric aspects include mass murders, destruction, bombing, inadequate supply of food, etc.

Based on the reports gathered by HAWE, more than 558 schools remain closed to provide safety to young kids and teachers. The locals are constantly displaced and relocated due to terrorist attacks and safety concerns.

Contributions of HAWE

HAWE works in the Amhara area to help those struggling to make ends meet. Our programs and initiatives help refugees, HVCs, women, and families who need food, money, and shelter. Our HVC program focuses on fulfilling the needs of disabled children who are unable to accomplish household duties. We also provide foster care services, where children are placed with families that can care for them.

We also look into the fact that there is not enough drinking water in Ethiopia. Therefore, we strive to resolve this issue. Alongside water shortage, people are also restricted from availing proper nutrition. HAWE is dedicated to lowering the number of child and adult hunger cases.

The region of Amhara is afflicted with a dwindling amount of medical supplies, food shortages, and many more problems that we aim to help alleviate by using your charitable donations to purchase and send medicine, fresh drinking water, and food. HAWE is currently working in multiple regions, all of which are affected by this gruesome civil war to the point that murder, rape, torture are all becoming common words in the daily lives of not just women but children in the Amhara region as well.
